Towards Pesticide Use Reduction in Germany (January 2006)
PAN Europe recently translated from the German this PAN Germany report. The arguments for pesticide use reduction laid down in this report counterbalance many arguments of the industry claiming, for example, that low residues in food are harmless, or that pesticide use benefits health and the environment. Many of PAN Germany's demands concerning a national pesticide use reduction plan and calls for changes in crop protection are relevant for other countries in Europe. We believe that other organisations might make the same demands expressed by PAN Germany next to their national officials and ministers.

Guiding Lighthouses for Future Plant Protection Policy (May 2005)
Pesticide issues have been in the public focus for over 40 years. In order to point the way in which plant protection policies should develop in the future, PAN Germany has set up 7 "guiding lighthouses". For PAN Germany, these "guiding lighthouses" represent indispensable guidelines and signposts, such as are needed in every field of politics in any intact democracy: coherency, transparency, participation, responsibility, precautionary principle, minimization of risk, and fairness.

PAN Germany Statement: "Position on Transparency and Participation" (March 2003)
Crucial elements of the governmental authorisation of pesticides take place behind closed doors, providing an important safe guard for the interests of pesticide producers and dealers. At the same time there are relevant public interests having access to information on the process of authorising pesticides. After all, pesticides are poisons that are voluntarily released into the environment.
